So what are these links about?
Ever since this website has been online, we've had requests to make sermon recordings available for download... college students want to remain connected to their church home while they're away... busy families who are out-of-town or otherwise committed some Sundays still want to hear the message... those suffering from illness or injury need to remain included as part of their comfort and healing. This is our first attempt at "Pastorcasting", so we hope you'll try it out and let us know how it works for you.
The two linked images you see on the left below the navigation buttons will allow you to listen to our recorded sermons, but in different ways:
The first image will always be a link to the most recent sermon. You can click on it to listen directly from your browser, probably using Windows Media Player or QuickTime (unless you've installed a different default mp3 player), or you can right-click and save a copy of it locally for playback later, synching to a portable mp3 player, etc.
The other square orange image is what's called a feed, and it will allow you to subscribe to our sermon recordings. When you subscribe, you'll automatically receive new sermons as they're posted, without actually having to return here and check for them. The feed is also accessible to many hand-held devices like Blackberrys® and other "smart phones", meaning you can easily hear a new sermon every week even when you're traveling and away from your computer.
The sermon feed is being published to iTunes® as well, so you can also simply subscribe to the podcast there if that's more convenient or familiar. Just search for a podcast named "TLC Sermons".
How do I subscribe?
You'll need something called a feed reader that can read files presented in RSS 2.0 format. The good news is that the most current versions of web browsers like Internet Explorer® and Firefox® come with built-in feed readers. When you click on the feed image, you'll see a page with a link that allows you to listen to the sermon, but you'll also be asked if you'd like to subscribe to the sermons feed. If you decide to subscribe, a link to each Sunday's recorded sermon will come to your browser automatically every week. All you'll need to do is open your bookmarks, favorites, or feed folder (depending on which browser you use) and there you'll find a link to hear the latest sermon.
If your browser doesn't support RSS feeds directly but you still want instant access to the latest sermons, you'll need to download and install a separate feed reader or use one of the online readers. You can search the web for "feed readers", or use one of these popular free readers:
Hopefully this will get you started, and you'll find that having this sort of access to the TLC weekly sermons is valuable to you. Please give us any feedback you might have, and please remember that these recordings are original works which are the sole property of their authors and Tree of Life Lutheran Church. You must obtain written permission from TLC to use them for anything other than individual listening.
